ASME B16.50:2021 pdf download Wrought Copper and Copper Alloy Braze-Joint Pressure Fittings
1 scOPE
This Standard establishes requirements for wroughtcopper and wrought copper alloy seamless pressurefittings designed for use by brazing with seamlesscopper tube conforming to ASTM B88 (for water andgeneral plumbing systems].ASTM B280 ( for air-conditioning and refrigeration service), and ASTMB819 (for medical gas systems).
Fittings made in accordance with this Standard areintended for assembly with brazing materials conformingto Aws A5.8M /A5.8.
This Standard is allied to ASME B16.18 for cast copperalloy pressure fittings and ASME B16.22 for wroughtfittings that can be used in soldering or brazing. This Stan-dard provides requirements for fitting ends of suitabledepth to only be joined by brazing.Fittings manufacturedto this Standard are not suitable for joining by soldering. When soldering is the desired joining method, use fittingsmanufactured to ASME B16.18 or ASME B16.22.This Stan-dard covers
(a) pressure-temperature ratings(b) abbreviations for end connections
(c) size and method of designating openings of fittings(d) marking
(e) material
dimensions and toleranceslg) testing
2 GENERAL
2.1 Relevant Units
This Standard states values in both Sl (metric) and U.S.Customary units. These systems of units are to beregarded separately as standard. wWithin the text, theU.S. Customary units are shown in parentheses. Thevalues stated in each system are not exact equivalents;therefore, it is required that each system of units beused independently of the other. Combining values
from the two systems constitutes nonconformancewith the Standard.
2.2 References
Standards and specifications adopted by reference inthis Standard are shown in Mandatory Appendix I.which is part of this Standard. It is not considered practical
to identify the specific edition of each standard and spec-ification in the individual references.Instead, the specificedition reference is identified in Mandatory Appendix 1.2.3 Quality Systems
Requirements relating to the product manufacturer’sQuality System Programs are described in NonmandatoryAppendix B.
3 PRESSURE-TEMPERATURE RATINGS3.1 Rating of System
The internal pressure-temperature rating for a brazejoint system is dependent on not only fitting and tubestrength but also selection of valves and appurtenances.Pressure-temperature ratings for fittings and braze jointsto the dimensions of Table 3.1-1,made with typicalcommercial brazing materials, shall be consideredequal to the values given in Table 3.1-2.
The internal pressure-temperature rating of the systemshall be the lowest of the values shown in Table 3.1-2 andthose of the tube, valves, or appurtenances.
3.2 Fitting Bursting Strength
Fittings manufactured to this Standard shall have anambient-temperature bursting strength of at least 4times the 38C (100°F) internal pressure rating asshown in Table 3.1-2.
4TERMINOLOGY4.1 Size
The size ofthe fittings shownin Table 3.1-1 correspondsto standard water tube size as shown in ASTM B88. Thesize of the threaded ends corresponds to nominal pipe sizeas shown in ASME B1.20.1.Fittings are designated by thesize of the openings in the sequence illustrated in Figure4.1-1.
4.2 Abbreviations
The following symbols are used to designate the type offitting end:
c = braze-joint fitting end made to receive copper
tube diameter (female)
